Straphanger killed after slamming into departing train during NYC subway station brawl: sources

A straphanger was killed when he slammed into a moving train at a Brooklyn subway station early Wednesday morning after getting into a brawl with a fellow rider, according to law enforcement sources and police.

The deadly incident started as a verbal quarrel on a train before it spilled out onto the Prospect Park station platform on the Q and B lines around 2:30 a.m., sources said.

The argument quickly turned physical, leading to one of the riders smacking into a departing southbound Q train.

It’s unclear how he ended up near the edge of the platform, but he never landed on the tracks, police said.

The NYPD also said it doesn’t appear the man, who was in his 30s or 40s, was deliberately pushed into the moving train.

The man, who has not been identified, suffered severe head trauma and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The other straphanger was taken into custody, though no charges have been filed as of early Wednesday afternoon, police said.

Footage captured by Freedom News TV showed cops leading an unidentified man out of the station and into a police vehicle.

It’s unclear if the two riders knew each other leading up to the dispute, police said.
