Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani’s inaugural committee includes a Democratic Socialists of America leader who once hailed two women caught tearing down Israeli hostage posters as “heroes.”
Alvaro Lopez, a DSA electoral organizer, replied to a November 2023 post on X about The Post’s cover story featuring two women caught tearing down Israeli hostage posters on the Upper West Side — cursing those who challenged them.
“All I see are heroes,” Lopez wrote about the hateful pair, one of whom barked , “f–k you, f–k Israel” to a passerby who called them out.

It’s not the first time Lopez voiced his anti-Israel stance.
In October 2023, he accused US Rep. Ritchie Torres, (D-NY) of having “Palestinian children’s blood on your hands,” in an X post.
“What’s your asking price from APAIC [sic] ?” he asked the Bronx Dem, referring to the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, which promotes and advocates for the Jewish state.
Mamdani too is a member of the DSA, which was widely condemned after promoting a hate-filled pro-Palestine rally and in Times Square a day after Hamas terrorists massacred 1,200 people in Israel on Oct. 7, 2023 — the first of several such demonstrations.
Lopez is just one of several anti-Israel activists selected to serve on Mamdani’s inaugural committee.
The incoming socialist mayor has also tapped Ms. Rachel — who once made a video for children with Motaz Azzaiz, a Palestinian activist who posted “May God curse the Jews themselves” on social media.

Ms. Rachel, whose real name is Rachel Griffin-Accurso, has long been accused of parroting Hamas propaganda in her videos for tots in an effort to indoctrinate young minds against Israel — while ignoring the plight of Israeli children victims of Hamas barbaric Oct. 7 attacks.
Also included on the committee is Beth Miller, political director of the left-wing Jewish Voice for Peace, who accused Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of “pledging to commit war crimes against Palestinians in Gaza” in response to the leader’s planned response to the Oct. 7, 2023, Hamas attack, which left 1,200 Israelis dead.
And Mamdani’s head of appointments on his transition team, Catherine Almonte Da Costa, was forced to step down last week after her vile antisemitic tweets about “money hungry Jews” were unearthed.
Lopez claimed to The Post he didn’t remember his writing on X and said “it’s possible I was talking about the people on the posters, it was a really chaotic time.”
When sent a screenshot and link to his post, he declined to comment.
