We used to think Justin Jefferson was quarterback-proof. After all, he posted huge numbers with Sam Darnold, helped make Kirk Cousins a bona fide star QB after just an OK stint with Washington. He had even done pretty well with backup Nick Mullens over a short period.
No QB could keep Jefferson down. Certainly not under coach Kevin O’Connell’s tutelage.
Turns out, maybe Jefferson was just QB-resistant, not QB-proof, because this season hasn’t worked out as expected. It hasn’t been like any season before. And the problem didn’t seem to be Jefferson, the problem appeared to be specifically the QBs.
Whether it was J.J. McCarthy or Carson Wentz or — gulp — Max Brosmer, Jefferson has suffered his worst pro season, by far.
