The NFL slate this past weekend left the Giants and the Jets sitting in the second and third positions in the 2026 draft, respectively, with one more game remaining for both out-of-it squads on Sunday.

The last time both local teams picked in the top-3 in the same year was 2018, when they grabbed two since-departed NFL stars, current Eagles running back Saquon Barkley and Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold.

Too soon?

With the playoffs once again eliminated from the realm of possibilities weeks ago, both teams already can concentrate on the upcoming draft, although the Giants still need to make decisions on retaining GM Joe Schoen and the search to replace fired Brian Daboll as head coach. (One intriguing name for the latter list was removed Monday when it was reported that coach Marcus Freeman will be staying at Notre Dame on a restructured contract).
