On the same day news broke that his brother Stefon Diggs was charged with strangulation and assault, cornerback Trevon Diggs was waived by the Cowboys in a surprising move.

Diggs, 27, confirmed to NFL Network’s Jane Slater that he was getting cut and says he’s healthy; he missed roughly two months after suffering a concussion during a home accident.

NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reports Diggs’ release “was the culmination of multiple factors spread over time, including both performance and other elements.”

A second-round pick by the Cowboys in 2020, Diggs is a two-time Pro Bowler who led the NFL in interceptions (11) during the 2021 season.

Before the 2023 season, the Cowboys signed him to a five-year, $97 million contract extension with roughly $33 million guaranteed. Since then, he has struggled to stay on the field.

He played just two games in 2023 before tearing his ACL. Groin and knee injuries limited him to 11 games in 2024 and he’s appeared in eight games this season.

The status of Stefon, the four-time Pro Bowl receiver in his first year with the Patriots, is unclear.
