Wisconsin Senator Tammy Baldwin is on the defensive over her direction of $400,000 federal dollars to a youth services organization that gave chest binders to young girls who identify as boys.
A new ad from Baldwin’s campaign claims that the senator, who is locked in a tight race with Republican challenger Eric Hovde, “didn’t give funding to a transgender clinic,” but rather secured funding for “a youth homeless shelter.” The ad also claims that children do not undergo sex change surgeries in Wisconsin.
The defensive ad, which can be viewed in its entirety below, indicates that Baldwin’s support of transgender ideology is hurting her in her race against Eric Hovde. It’s also inaccurate.

The “youth homeless shelter” in question is Briarpatch Youth Services, for which Baldwin earmarked $400,000. At the time she secured the funding, Briarpatch ran the “Teens Like Us LGBTQIA2s+” program, which included a “gender affirming clothing program.” The program gave away free chest binders, which are devices given to young girls who identify as boys who want to flatten their breasts to look more like a male. The group also gave away “gaffs,” underwear used by males who identify as female.
Briarpatch also accepted donations for “gently used binders” to give away, and directed visitors to Origami Customs, a group that makes custom clothing for transgender-identifying individuals.
“Our favorite online shop for binders, gaffs, swimwear, and more is Origami Customs,” Briarpatch said. “They can also make custom sizes at no extra charge! They also have great resources to teach you how to measure yourself for the best fitting garment, and how to practice safe binding and tucking.”

While the references to chest binders have since been scrubbed from its website, Briarpatch’s LGBT support group still offers “Pride Flags of ALL kinds,” and “pronoun pins.” Baldwin has claimed that the funding would not go toward the sexuality-focused program and only “mental health services.”
According to Do No Harm, there have been at least 195 minor transgender surgery patients in Wisconsin since 2019. The data shows that the number of kids in Wisconsin having transgender surgeries has only increased in the last few years. That doesn’t include the 97 children who have been given prescriptions for life-altering puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones.
Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers (D) vetoed Republican-backed legislation that would have banned the life-altering procedures from being done on children.
Republicans and conservatives including Hovde, former President Donald Trump, and groups like CatholicVote, have targeted Democrats across the country for their support of transgender ideology. A campaign from CatholicVote in Wisconsin revealed that 86 girls who identify as boys in the state have had their breasts removed.
