Kayla Vesia, the wife of Dodgers reliever Alex Vesia, shared in an emotional TikTok video that they’ve been “trying to get through it every day” since the tragic death of their newborn daughter in October.
Kayla, who hadn’t posted on the platform since a video in November about the death of Sterling Sol Vesia, acknowledged that she didn’t know what her content would look like in the future but wanted “to come and say thank you” since she shares parts of her and her husband’s life on social media.
“Every day is so different for us right now,” Kayla said, “and I don’t really have the words. … I am really grateful for the community of you guys and just expressing your support and love toward us. It really has brought us a lot of comfort during this.”
Alex, 29, was away from the Dodgers during the World Series for a “deeply personal matter,” the team said in a statement at the time, and Kayla later revealed following the conclusion of the series that their daughter died Oct. 26 — writing that “there are no words to describe the pain we’re going through but we hold her in our hearts and cherish every second we had with her.”
Blue Jays relievers added No. 51 — Alex’s number — to their hats during the World Series, a gesture that Dodgers utilityman Kiké Hernández said they appreciated, according to MLB.com.
Kayla said in her TikTok that she had drafts saved when she thought about sharing part of the story up to this point, and while Kayla said she was “prepared for everything,” she “wasn’t prepared for not taking my baby home.”
“I do want to share my journey,” Kayla said in the video as she started to tear up. “I don’t know how much I’m gonna share. I don’t know the details of it, but I do know that I want to share and if it can help somebody who’s going through the same thing, you know — feel like they’re not alone.
“I will not be coming on here and crying. I don’t want to come on the internet and cry. I don’t think that’s fun for anyone. So I think it’ll be a good outlet to talk and share, different from me and Alex talking and talking with our therapist. It’s just a different outlet. And like I said, if it can help somebody who’s going through the same thing, then that’s great.”
Alex has spent the last five seasons with the Dodgers.
The couple got married in January 2024.
