At long last, the Yankees are getting some relief for their relief corps.
The club is close to acquiring Pirates closer David Bednar, The Post’s Jon Heyman confirmed Thursday, giving them a strong high-leverage weapon at the back-end of their bullpen along with closer Devin Williams and setup man Luke Weaver.
The price was a costly one – as most deals have been this week for top-end relievers – with the Yankees sending catching prospect Rafael Flores to the Pirates along with two others.
Bednar, 30, is a two-time All-Star who is under team control through next season — an important factor given that Williams and Weaver are set to become free agents this offseason.
The right-hander had a rough 2024, posting a 5.77 ERA and then was demoted to Triple-A early this season after three rocky outings.
But he has been strong since returning in mid-April, overall recording a 2.37 ERA with 17 saves and 51 strikeouts in 38 innings.
