Trae Young has his eyes on the nation’s capital.
With his name in trade rumors, the star Hawks guard has the Wizards as his preferred destination, according to a report from ESPN.
Young and Atlanta are reportedly working together on a trade, signaling that his days with the Hawks are nearing an end.
NBA insider Marc Stein reported that the two teams are discussing a deal “centered around CJ McCollum’s expiring contract.”

Young and the Hawks have appeared to be close to a break up since last offseason when the team opted not to offer him a contract extension.
The four-time All-Star has a $49 million player option for next season.
Young, who has spent his entire NBA career in Atlanta since the franchise took him No. 5 overall in the 2018 draft, has been limited to just 10 games this season due to various leg injuries.
He is currently sidelined with a right quad contusion, which has taken him off the court for the Hawks’ past five games.
When on the court this season, Young hasn’t quite looked like himself, averaging 19.3 points and 8.9 assists, which are a significant step down from his career averages of 25.2 points per game and 9.8 assists per game.
Sitting at 17-21 this season and having won just two playoff series during the Young era, the Hawks appear ready to head in a different direction.
By acquiring Young, the Wizards would bring in a star-caliber veteran to pair with their young core.
Washington is 10-25 through Tuesday’s play, which is the fourth-worst record in the league.
The Wizards have spent nearly a decade in the doldrums of the NBA, finishing below .500 in eight straight seasons.
