Super Bowl week started off with quite the bang for those already in the championship’s host city.
Multiple earthquakes, including a 4.2-magnitude one, rocked the Bay Area early Monday morning, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
The tremors began at 6:27 a.m. PT, the USGS reported, and continued until just before 8 a.m. More than 12 in total were recorded.
The epicenters were located in San Ramon, not far from Levi’s Stadium, where Super Bowl LX will be played between the Patriots and Seahawks on Sunday afternoon.
No injuries or substantial damage have been reported, though BART said those taking its means of public transportation Monday could see delays.
“An earthquake occurred within the area serviced by BART. Trains are running at reduced speeds while we complete safety track inspections. Please expect residual delays of up to 20 minutes systemwide.”
Both the Seahawks and Patriots arrived in San Jose on Sunday evening, just hours before the earthquakes hit.
Players from the two teams are scheduled to speak with media members later Monday as part of the NFL’s Super Bowl Opening Night at the San Jose Convention Center.
