Chargers linebacker Denzel Perryman will not face criminal charges after he was arrested on suspicion of felony weapons possession on Friday night, according to multiple reports.
Perryman, 32, had been held in jail since the Friday night arrest when he was stopped by Los Angeles County Sheriff deputies for vehicle code violations and was released from jail on Monday afternoon, the Los Angeles Times reported.
“We’re grateful the matter has been resolved,” Perryman’s agent, Ron Butler, said in a statement to The Athletic. “At this time, Denzel is focused on getting back to his family and teammates.”
Deputies found five firearms in Perryman’s car, which included two assault-style rifles, during the traffic stop, according to a statement by the sheriff’s department.
Perryman had been slated to appear at the Inglewood Courthouse on Tuesday morning, ESPN reported, before LA District Attorney Nathan Hochman opted not to pursue charges.
“The case was sent back to law enforcement for further investigation,” the DA told TMZ.
Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh addressed the situation with reporters Monday, saying he visited Perryman in jail over the weekend.
“He’s working through the legalities along with his representation,” Harbaugh said prior to Perryman’s release. “Had a chance to see him yesterday, whenever I visited, and he was in good spirits. And love Denzel. He’s always done right. He’s never been in trouble. They’ve got a beautiful family.”
Harbaugh also said they would “let the due process play out.”
Perryman had been in a battle for the starter job at middle linebacker headed into the 2025 season.
This is his second stint with the Chargers after he was drafted by them in 2015 and played six seasons with the franchise before stops with the Raiders and Texans.
He returned to the team last season, tallying 55 tackles and one sack.
