Sunday’s Super Bowl didn’t just prove the Seahawks were the NFL’s top team this season, it also showed Matthew Stafford was the league’s clear-cut MVP.
At least that’s according to Richard Sherman, who declared during Seattle’s big win over New England at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif. that the 29-13 result of the game established Stafford was the most deserving of the hardware he won earlier this week.
“So when the MVP arguments are had,” Sherman wrote on X. “This tape should end that discussion. Stafford out on a master class against this same defense that Maye has 18 yards against currently with 7:34 left in the 3rd Q.
“He has had a great season and will have an MVP in his future but it was Stafford year.”
Maye ultimately finished the game with 295 passing yards, two passing touchdowns and two interceptions. He completed just 27 of his 43 pass attempts and lost a fumble in the blowout loss.
Stafford, meanwhile, had far more success against Seattle in the NFC Championship game on Jan. 25. He threw for 374 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions on 22-of-35 passing in a 31-27 defeat.
Stafford barely edged out Maye for MVP accolades at NFL Honors on Thursday in San Francisco, where it was announced the Rams star tallied 366 points (24 first-place votes) to Maye’s 361 (23 first-place votes).
The race was the closest since 2003, when Peyton Manning and Steve McNair shared the award.
And, clearly, Sherman thinks it had no business being that tight.
