BETHLEHEM — Residents of Bethlehem in Judea reported that it was anything but a silent night this evening, as they were treated to two different concerts by two young musicians. Eyewitnesses said that shortly after the little drummer boy left the stable, a little bagpipe boy showed up wailing out a tune of his own.
“It was not a fun experience,” noted Mary, mother of newborn baby Jesus. “First that kid with the drum showed up, and it was all ‘pa rum pum pum pum’ for two hours. We finally got rid of him, and then some kid showed up with a set of bagpipes. That angel of the Lord certainly didn’t warn me about all this.”
Mary said the only bright spot was that baby Jesus never cried once during the entire performance. “That little Lord Jesus, no crying he made,” she noted. “Or maybe he did, I don’t know. You can’t really hear anything when a kid is playing bagpipes in your face.”
Local shepherds also noticed the commotion and raced to the scene.
“We heard a terrible wailing and thought someone was murdering our sheep,” they said. “But it was just some kid playing ‘Scotland The Brave’ on a set of bagpipes. It’s a common mistake.”
At publishing time, town residents were finally able to send little bagpipe boy on his way after an hour-long concert, but their hopes for a restful night’s sleep were dashed as they soon spotted little recorder boy making his way to the stable.
