Chaos at LAX after TSA PreCheck and Global Entry shut, furious flyers trapped in massive lines

Mayhem hit LAX on Sunday morning after TSA pre-check lanes were halted and Global Entry was disrupted due to the government shut down.

Frustrated passengers were trapped in huge lines and many missed their flights after the lanes were closed over the weekend.

The US Department of Homeland Security had ordered TSA Pre Check shut and Global Entry arrival processing paused, LAX officials said.

Claudia Wong told ABC 7: “This doesn’t make any sense. It seems very disruptive for people trying to get about their day and it’s very challenging for people just trying to get to where they need to go.”

After the chaos, the lines eventually re-opened.

LAX said in a statement: “Despite an earlier announcement, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security has confirmed that — at this time — TSA PreCheck remains operational.

“If staffing constraints arise, TSA will adjust operations accordingly.”

The lane closings came as a brutal winter storm hit the East Coast further adding to cancellations for frustrated fliers.

As many as 82 cancellations and 101 delays were reported Sunday morning at LAX, according to the flight tracking website FlightAware.
