Former UK Ambassador to the US Lord Peter Mandelson, who was fired over his ties to Jeffrey Epstein, has been arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office, police in London said Monday.
The ex-diplomat, 72, was seen being led out of his London home by cops on Monday afternoon after he was accused of leaking sensitive British government intelligence to the pedophile financier.
Mandelson, who infamously appeared in the Epstein files in just his underwear and a T-shirt, looked stony-faced as he was put in the back of an unmarked car.
Then-Business Secretary Lord Mandelson allegedly tipped off Epstein about potentially market-sensitive decisions, according to several email exchanges released by the US Department of Justice.
The case is similar to the one that led to the arrest of Kind Charles III’s brother, the ex-Prince Andrew.
Andrew is accused of sending sensitive information to Epstein while he was working as a trade envoy.
Officers searched the former Labour politician’s home in the leafy north London district of Camden, as well as in Wiltshire, southwest England, according to the Metropolitan Police.
“I can confirm that officers from the Met’s Central Specialist Crime team are in the process of carrying out search warrants at two addresses, one in the Wiltshire area, and another in the Camden area,” Deputy Assistant Commissioner Haley Stewart told the Sun.
“The searches are related to an ongoing investigation into misconduct in public office offences, involving a 72-year-old man,” they added.
Mandelson’s alleged close ties to Epstein have sparked turmoil in the UK, with many calling on under-fire Prime Minister Keir Starmer to resign over his role in appointing him to the US Ambassador role.
Starmer has claimed Mandelson “lied” to him about the “depth and darkness” of his relationship with the Wall Street sex offender.
His arrest comes just days after the former Prince Andrew was detained on suspicion of misconduct in public office on his 66th birthday.
