Will Congress Follow Up on President Trump’s SOTU Requests for Legislation – Especially the SAVE America Act?

Will Congress pass legislation on the targeted priorities President Trump laid out in his SOTU address?

Unlike some past SOTU addresses with extensive “laundry lists,” Trump’s remarks included only a limited number of specific calls to action directed at Congress. He urged lawmakers to pass legislation on several targeted priorities, often framing them as ways to codify his executive actions or advance his agenda. Here’s a breakdown of the main things he explicitly called on Congress to do, based on reporting from outlets like NPR, Fox News, CNBC, and others:

  • Approve the SAVE America Act: He urged passage of this bill requiring proof of citizenship and photo ID for voting, purging voter rolls of non-citizens, and other election integrity measures to prevent non-citizens from voting.
  • Codify his prescription drug pricing reforms (often referred to as “Trump Rx” or the Most-Favored-Nation policy): Trump asked Congress to enshrine into permanent law his efforts to tie U.S. drug prices to the lowest prices paid in other developed nations, aiming to lower costs for Americans.
  • Pass the “Stop Insider Trading Act”: He called for legislation to ban or restrict members of Congress and their spouses from trading stocks using insider information gained through their positions.
  • Make permanent his ban on large institutional investors (e.g., Wall Street firms, private equity) buying single-family homes: Trump reiterated a call to codify an executive order preventing corporations from bulk-purchasing homes, emphasizing “homes for people, not for corporations” to address housing affordability.
  • Pass the “Delilah Law” (or similar phrasing in reports): This would ban states from issuing commercial driver’s licenses to immigrants in the country without legal status.
  • Other mentions included broader support for funding military priorities (e.g., boosting Pentagon resources to $1 trillion in some contexts), health care reforms (like replacing aspects of the Affordable Care Act or redirecting insurance payments), and border security enhancements, though these were less explicitly tied to new standalone bills.

Of all the items President Trump has asked Congress to address, the most important is the SAVE America Act and other legislation to make US elections free and fair.

President Trump called out the Democrats on their election cheating during the SOTU:

🚨 BREAKING #SOTU2026: Trump hammers Dems on election security — “It must be passed… The only reason why they don’t want it passed is because they want to cheat!”

The elections are not certifiable as they stand.  The only way the Democrats win is if they are allowed to cheat.

We saw massive fraud in 2020, and they will do it again in 2026 unless cheating is prevented through new laws and processes.
