Two young children and a woman suffered burns after multiple manhole covers exploded in lower Manhattan Thursday afternoon, cops and sources said.
The sudden blast occurred just before 4 p.m. at the intersection of Warren and Church Streets in Tribeca, injuring a 2-year-old girl, a 4-year-old boy, and a 57-year-old woman, according to police and sources.
The three victims sustained minor burns, with the youngsters singed in the face and upper chest.
They were each taken to New York Presbyterian-Lower Manhattan Hospital in stable condition, cops said.
As many as three cast-iron manhole covers erupted in the area during the incident, according to the FDNY.
It’s unclear what sparked the explosion.
