Arch Manning out of walking boot after surgery — but his spring will be limited

Arch Manning will be limited this spring after undergoing a minor foot surgery last month.

Texas coach Steve Sarkisian told ESPN that the quarterback is out of a walking boot, but he’ll be limited “especially early on” in the spring during an interview on Thursday.

Manning is coming off a season in which he passed for 3,163 yards and 26 touchdowns. He added another 10 scores on the ground during his first full season as the Longhorns’ starter.

“He had a lingering thing that he’d been dealing with over a couple of years that we just wanted to clean up,” Sarkisian said. “It wasn’t a serious issue at all. It takes time. You do a procedure on a foot, we’re going to be cautious to make sure he’s 100 percent healthy before he goes.”

Texas finished the 2025 season with a 10-3 record and missed the College Football Playoff, despite high expectations at the beginning of the year with Manning under center.

Sarkisian said that “nobody was playing better” than Manning during the second half of the season.

Manning will return to Austin this season after forgoing entering the NFL draft.

The Texas bench boss expressed a positive look on Manning going through the growing pains of last season, dubbing it a “good thing.”

“I think he gained a lot of confidence in the second half of the season, and I think we learned about him, he learned his style of play, and he came back with a really good mindset,” Sarkisian said. “This is his team. … In the end, naturally, he wants to go win a championship. The rest of the things will fall into place, but that’s where his mindset is. He’s the ultimate team player, and it shows every day.”

Texas will begin its spring practices on March 9 and will play its spring game on April 19 after five weeks of practices.
