KTLA staffers fear more fan favorites could disappear in coming weeks after brutal firings

Another wave of KTLA fan favorite-TV personalities could disappear off the air by the end of next month, station insiders told The California Post.

Veteran anchors Glen Walker and Lu Parker, weather anchor Mark Kriski, weathercaster Kacey Montoya, and reporter Ellina Abovian were among those who were shockingly fired by the company last month.

The firing was especially painful for Abovian who was let go on her 40th birthday.

When the staffers were informed they were getting canned, they were given the option to either continue to work for the next 60 days or to receive 60 days worth of salary, a station source told The Post.

Montoya opted to work on at least a few of those days, and will appear on air starting this weekend, the source added.

However, some staffers now worry that other employees may have received the same 60-day offer and are still working without telling coworkers they’ll soon be leaving.

“We think some people with egos might not have wanted it out there if they were laid off and would just come in and work for two months then disappear all while trying to line up something else that they are saying they’re leaving for,” a station source told The Post.

Most of the beloved anchors who were shown the door never got the chance to say goodbye to KTLA’s loyal viewers.

Frank Buckley, one of the remaining KTLA anchors, addressed the awkward news of the firings on air from the anchor desk just one day after they happened.

“Before we move on this morning, we want to acknowledge some news that broke yesterday that effects all of us here at KTLA, you may have heard that a number of our beloved colleagues have been laid off. As you probably know, we are extremely limited in what we can say,” Buckley said while looking into the camera.

“This is a difficult time for us, and we will go through it together,” Buckley said. “But we also have a job to do, and that is to bring you the news that you need. … But please know that our colleagues and our friends are in our thoughts as we move forward,” he added.
