Talk about a rude wakeup call.
A Los Angeles man says a scorpion stung him while he was lying in bed at a Las Vegas hotel, leaving him injured and considering legal action.
Sulaiman Lutale told 8 News Now he was visiting Sin City on a business trip in May 2025 when he booked a room at the Silver Sevens Hotel and Casino while searching for an affordable stay.
But the trip took a painful turn when he said he suddenly felt a sharp sting while getting ready to sleep.
“From my understanding, he was in his bed, and he was getting ready to go to sleep [and] felt a significant sting,” attorney Brian Virag of My Bed Bud Lawyer, who represents Lutale, told 8 News Now.
The sting prompted Lutale to ask his roommate to begin recording — capturing video of what Virag said was the culprit: a scorpion on the hotel room floor.
In the video, which Virag shared with the California Post, the scorpion could be seen on the floor of the hotel room, before the roommate stomped on it repeatedly before it appeared to have died.
Virag said his client was stung on the arm by a bark scorpion, which the National Park Service describes as the most venomous scorpion species in North America. A sting can be life-threatening in severe cases.
The incident reportedly happened May 29, 2025, toward the end of Lutale’s four-day stay at the hotel.

After the sting, Lutale reported the incident to the hotel’s front desk and was moved to another room according to the report.
Virag argued that hotels have a responsibility to keep guests safe — regardless of price.
“Obviously, the Silver Seven is probably on the lower end of the expensive hotels in Las Vegas, but the same principles apply,” Virag told 8 News Now. “It doesn’t matter how much you’re spending for a hotel room or an accommodation, it’s got to be safe.”
After returning home to Los Angeles, Lutale said he sought medical treatment for the sting, which he claims left scarring on his arm.
He said he hopes to resolve the dispute with the hotel before filing a lawsuit, but shared his story to warn other travelers.
“It’s just to follow the safety precautions before they hand out room to guests,” Lutale told the outlet.
Lutale said he never received an apology from the hotel and has not heard from the property since checking out.
