Police swarmed a Jewish synagogue in Michigan Thursday following reports of an “active shooter” after a car apparently crashed into the building.
Authorities responded to the Temple Israel in West Bloomfield just before 1 p.m. following reports of the crash, WDIV reported.

Witnesses reported hearing gunshots immediately after.
The vehicle intentionally plowed into the synagogue before catching fire, police sources said.
Aerial footage showed smoke wafting from the building in the apparent aftermath.
So far, cops have only described the incident as an “active situation” and urged locals to stay away.
The synagogue houses a preschool, according to its website. Multiple nearby schools went into lockdown following the alert.
No other details were immediately available.
“We are aware of an active security incident at Temple Israel,” the Jewish Federation of Detroit said in a statement.
“Law enforcement are responding. Our Jewish agencies are currently in precautionary lockdown. We ask community members to stay away from the area at this time.”
