Edward Cabrera is primed for breakout — and is perfect fantasy baseball target

Year after year, we heard about Edward Cabrera’s elite stuff. We saw glimpses of his high strikeout potential and ace-like qualities. We were teased by moments of dominance.

But, year after year, fantasy managers experienced many frustrating moments, like watching him issue three or more walks in a single game (which he has done 41 times over 89 career appearances).

Last season felt different, though.

Sure, 12 of his 26 starts lasted five innings or less and he allowed four or more runs six times, but it was also the first time Cabrera made more than 20 starts and went 8-7 with a 3.53 ERA, 1.23 WHIP, 25.8 percent strikeout rate, .231 opponents’ average and a 12.6 percent swinging-strike rate for the Marlins.
