Travis Hunter said he has a new joy about him after cutting out social media last month following public controversy over his relationship with fiancée Leanna Lenee.
During Wednesday’s installment of “The Travis Hunter Show,” the Colorado Buffaloes two-way player, who is possibly the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, explained that he hired a security guard and rarely takes photos with fans.
“All the haters are messing up for my supporters,” Hunter, 21, the Heisman Trophy winner this past season, said. “I rarely take pictures now because you don’t know what they’re going to do with it… People are weird. People scare me because you never know who’s got good intentions and it can always go left at any moment.
“But it’s all good because I got Frank the tank. I got a new security guard, y’all will get to meet him soon. His name is Frank, Frankenstein.”
Hunter, who deleted his Instagram account in December, explained that he’s a happier person after quitting social media.
“Don’t get on social media to go off off… That’s why I dumbed down what I show people now. I don’t be on social media as much… That would probably be, [what] I wish I realized earlier so it didn’t get to this point where I don’t gotta be on the apps,” Hunter said.
“It’s bettered me. I live life happy. I walk around the house happy not having social media, watching YouTube, on the phone with my friends, playing a game with my friends, just having fun. I just got a different type of joy in me now, not having that stress.”
Lenee also scrubbed her Instagram page last month after a string of incidents in the fall and winter.
Earlier this month, the couple attended Sports Illustrated’s annual awards ceremony at the Wynn in Las Vegas, where Hunter accepted the 2024 Breakout Star of the Year honor.
Hunter and Lenee remained a united front while the public picked apart her demeanor at multiple events during which the spotlight was on the college football star.
Lenee faced criticism when a video showed Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders appearing to tell her to stand and applaud Hunter when he was announced the Heisman winner last month.
Hunter later said Lenee got drunk and cried herself to sleep over the ridicule.
Before that, some took issue with Lenee’s demeanor in another video, which featured her looking stoic on a couch while Hunter posed for photos during a meet-and-greet with fans at his own event.
Lenee addressed the situation in a since-deleted TikTok video last month, and explained things were taken out of context on multiple occasions.
After Hunter deactivated his Instagram account, an older video that seemed to show Lenee dancing with another man surfaced on social media.
Hunter and Lenee revealed their engagement in February after going public with their relationship in 2022.
