Saturday was quite the date night for Paul Skenes and girlfriend Olivia “Livvy” Dunne.
The couple stepped out in New York City for the BBWAA [Baseball Writers’ Association of America] Awards Dinner, where the Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher received his 2024 NL Rookie of the Year Award.
Skenes, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 MLB Draft, looked dapper in a navy patterned tux while Dunne, now in her final season as a member of LSU’s gymnastics team, matched in a plunging midnight blue dress.
The 22-year-old ace finished his rookie season at 11-3 and a 1.96 ERA.
Dunne, whose relationship with Skenes was confirmed in the summer of 2023, supported the fellow LSU product during his sensational first season in the majors.
Not only was Dunne, 22, in attendance for his MLB debut in May, but she also traveled to Texas in July as Skenes took in his first MLB All-Star festivities.
“I cried,” Dunne previously said of Skenes’ first MLB start. “I was just so proud of him and I know how hard he worked for that very moment and the work that he puts in every day.
“I think he makes me a better athlete as well and a better person. I’m just so proud.”
Skenes is making the most of his offseason before pitchers and catchers report to spring training next month.
In early January, Skenes supported Dunne during LSU gymnastics’ season opener.
The Tigers are coming off a national title-winning season in 2024, earning the first NCAA Championship in program history.
The No. 2-ranked LSU fell to No. 17 Arkansas on Friday, 196.875-196.600.
Dunne scored a 9.70 on the floor in the third rotation of the night.
LSU hosts Missouri on Friday, Jan. 31.
As for Skenes, he and the Pirates open the MLB regular season against the Marlins on March 27.
