The Falcons have finally joined their counterparts in signing a right-handed quarterback.

Free agent quarterback Trevor Siemian is signing with Atlanta, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported Tuesday.

The decision comes after the Falcons released veteran quarterback Kirk Cousins on March 11 and signed former Dolphins signal-caller Tua Tagovailoa to a one-year, $1.3 million deal on March 9.

Siemian and Tagovailoa join third-year quarterback Michael Penix Jr. in a wonky quarterback room featuring two southpaws.

Penix tore his ACL in November and is working to return for the 2026 season opener.

Falcons general manager Ian Cunningham said there would be a competition between Tagovailoa and Penix for the starting job, and that likely doesn’t change with Siemian’s signing Tuesday.

“For Tua coming in here, he knows he’s coming in to compete,” Cunningham told reporters. “Just like Michael knows that he’s coming in to compete and everybody, quite frankly — not just those two at the quarterback position — but everybody’s coming in to compete.”

Across seven years in the league split between Broncos, Jets, Saints and Bears, Siemian has accumulated 7,751 yards and 44 passing touchdowns to 32 interceptions.

His best season came in 2016 with Denver when he threw for 3,401 yards and 18 touchdowns.

Siemian also hasn’t played in the NFL since 2023, when he played in just five games for the Jets and had more interceptions than touchdowns.

The Falcons finished 8-9 in 2025, placing third in the NFC South and missing the playoffs for the eighth straight season.

They promptly fired head coach Raheem Morris and hired former Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski in his spot.

Before his injury, Penix had made nine starts and racked up 1,982 passing yards, 10 total touchdowns and three interceptions last season.

Tagovailoa, meanwhile, has declined over the last few years with the Dolphins, leading to Miami releasing him for a whopping $99.2 million total cap hit.

Over the last two years, he’s totaled 39 passing touchdowns to 22 picks.

No matter who starts, the Falcons have a young offensive corps by their side.

Star running back Bijan Robinson was a First Team All-Pro in 2025, while Drake London and Kyle Pitts — whom Atlanta placed the franchise tag on in February — highlight its pass catching group.

The Falcons don’t have a first-round pick and only have five selections total in the upcoming draft, so they’ll need to make the most of their choices as well.

At least don’t have a quarterback shortage, though.
