WUSA9 reporter asks distraught husband to show his last texts to plane crash victim wife

A local DC reporter is facing intense backlash after interviewing a distraught husband and asking him to show his victim wife’s last text messages.

Hamaad Raza was waiting for his wife to arrive at Reagan Airport on Wednesday evening, but she never made it.

As reported earlier, an American Airlines flight carrying approximately 64 souls collided with a Blackhawk helicopter near Washington D.C. Reagan National Airport (DCA) late Wednesday evening.

The helicopter and plane collided over the Potomac.

A video from the Kennedy Center webcam captured the explosion in the air.

The collision left no survivors. Officials confirmed all 67 individuals aboard two aircraft have died.

A WUSA9 reporter interviewed a man who was clearly in shock after finding out about the plane-chopper collision.

“I’m just praying that someone is pulling her out of the river right now,” the man told WUSA9.

“She texted me that they were landing in 20 minutes,” the distraught husband said.

“Can you show us the text messages?” the local reporter asked him.

The man showed the reporter the last texts he sent to his wife.

“The rest of my texts did not get delivered,” the man said.

The reporter got blasted for asking a man who was clearly in shock to show the last messages he sent to his plane crash victim wife.

.@wusa9 needs a new reporter on the ground NOW that can handle this moment. To ask this man to see that text message is disgusting and beyond the pale. https://t.co/hB9tt3vmau

I think the media takes a lot of unwarranted criticism, but the local media interviewing a man clearly in shock at Reagan airport last night and asking to see the last text message on his phone from his wife who was on the downed plane feels extremely gross.

It’s incredibly heartless for a reporter to intrude on a man who’s just lost his wife in the Washington, D.C. #planecrash, let alone to ask to see her final text messages

prayers for everyone

The heartless reporter who asked to see the text messages of the husband waiting to see if his wife was pulled alive from the river is Larry Miller, @wusa9‘s anchor on the scene.

Scalper reporting is disgusting. https://t.co/btnJNNDmBn pic.twitter.com/Fgzy0LnU9j
