A woman and two young kids were murdered – and their alleged killer tried to stab himself – in a brutal act of domestic violence in Jersey City early Thursday, according to the city’s mayor.
The woman and children, ages 5 and 9, were found dead around 1 a.m. at an apartment building on Hutton Street near Liberty Avenue, Mayor Steven Fulop posted on X.
The male suspect tried to stab himself before he was taken into custody, the mayor said.
The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office confirmed it was probing “the death of two juveniles and an adult female,” which “are being investigated as an act of domestic violence.”
The exact relationships between the victims and their identities were not immediately known.
“We have chaplains and social workers in the neighborhood to work with family and neighbors,” Fulop wrote. “We are working closely with the HCPO.”
“This is just such horrible and sad news.”
A white sheet was draped over a broken window on the building’s first floor in the aftermath of the murders, CBS reported.
Residents told the network blood could be seen on the stairs and caution tape blocked off the lobby.
