Indie rock legends Weezer stunned Venice Beach-goers on Friday by playing a surprise rooftop show.
The acoustic pop-up drew a crowd of hundreds outside the Hinano Cafe, where the group belted out several classics to promote their just-announced tour, “The Gathering.”
The band wowed fans with by playing a handful of their greatest hits — including “Buddy Holly,” “Say It Ain’t So” and “Undone – The Sweater Song” — joined by guest Best Coast’s Bethany Cosentino.


Weezer performed the surprise set to kick off their “Weezer: The Gathering – Initiation Week,” a series of surprise events happening around LA. The band’s nationwide tour is set to kick off September 8 in Sacramento, Rolling Stone reported.
Fans looking to attend the group’s “Initiation Week” events can RSVP but aren’t guaranteed admission.
Upcoming events include a pinball and pickleball tournament.
