Susie Wiles to Convene Meeting on Security for President Trump

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed on Monday that Chief of Staff Susie Wiles will convene a meeting in the next few days to review security procedures for President Donald Trump. The meeting comes after the fourth assassination attempt since 2016 on Trump that took place at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner on Saturday in Washington, D.C.

Former President Donald Trump seated at a formal dinner, surrounded by guests in elegant attire, with a tense atmosphere evident among the attendees.

Leavitt said the meeting would include top officials from the Department of Homeland Security, Secret Service and the White House operations team.

Fox News reporter Bill Melugin reported on the meeting Sunday night:

BREAKING: A senior White House official tells @FoxNews that President Trump & the WH are standing by Secret Service leadership and a meeting will be held this week to review security protocols.

Statement to FOX:

“President Trump and the White House are standing by the leadership of Secret Service, and President Trump has said he personally thinks they did an excellent job neutralizing the shooter and moving the President, First Lady, Vice President and cabinet to safety. Nevertheless, Chief of Staff Susie Wiles is convening a meeting early this week with the White House operations team, USSS, and DHS leadership to discuss protocol and practices for major events involving POTUS. The meeting will discuss the processes and procedures that worked to stop Saturday’s attempt, while exploring additional options to ensure all relevant components are doing everything possible to secure the many major events planned for President Trump in the months ahead as he gears up to celebrate America 250.”

Leavitt defended Wiles’ oversight of Trump’s security in a statement Monday to Real Clear Politics reporter Susan Crabtree:

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt flatly denied the assertions that Wiles opposed the DHS leadership team’s Secret Service reforms.

“Let me be clear: Nobody cares more or has pushed harder, or has asked more hard questions about President Trump’s safety than Susie Wiles,” she said in a statement to RCP. “The insinuation that Susie would object to anything that would help strengthen protection for her boss and friend is absolutely absurd.”
