If Bryson DeChambeau wants to climb the PGA Championship leaderboard, he should probably avoid the stairs.

The LIV Golf star sent his tee shot on hole No. 2 287 yards to the right of the fairway, with the ball coming to rest on the stairway of a hospitality tent.

The scene caused some understandable consternation.

“I’m so confused right now,” DeChambeau told an official as they tried to figure out how to play things out.

The 32-year-old seemingly figured things out — sending his relief shot from the mulch 156 yards to the green, where he two-putted to save par.

It was one of the few good moments from DeChambeau’s morning, which saw him start the day with a par on the 10th hole before things quickly spiraled from there.

His first putt on the 11th hole — a mild tap — rolled quickly downhill and almost of the green en route to a three-putt as he carded his first of six bogeys on the round.

DeChambeau stood at plus-4 entering the back nine, finding some semblance of a stride, posting pars on holes 1-6, but added a bogey on seven and a disastrous double-bogey on eight.

His round mercifully finished with a six-over 76 thanks to his lone birdie of the day to finish tied for 120th on the leaderboard.

The runner-up at each of the last two PGA Championships, DeChambeau will have his work cut out for him for the weekend.

Thursday continued what has been a rough couple of weeks for DeChambeau, who has faced questions about his future with his LIV contract ending and the rebel golf league’s Saudi Arabian funding pulled.
