There are people out there who say stolen bases are all about speed, instincts and timing. They’re not entirely wrong, but fantasy managers know it is about more than having the fastest runners.

Sometimes it is about finding a catcher seemingly with the arm strength of a current-day Charlie Hough or a pitcher who delivers a ball with the speed of a sloth doing, well, anything.

While everyone obsesses over launch angles and hard-hit rates, savvy fantasy managers are looking for the season’s most generous batteries and treating them like an all-you-can-steal buffet.

Miami backstop Liam Hicks might have entered the weekend leading the majors in RBIs, but he was 1-for-17 (6 percent) throwing out baserunners attempting to steal against him, according to Statcast.
