A gunman opened fire in a small Texas town, shooting two people, firing at others and causing a panic across the area, according to KHOU.

“If you are outside the area, please avoid it and do not enter,” the statement continued.

“If you are in the neighborhood, obey all commands from law enforcement.”

The terror lasted for hours as the gunman barricaded himself inside a local residence. The standoff finally ended when a 60-year-old male suspect surrendered to SWAT officers.

By 7:30 p.m., authorities issued a public notice confirming the suspect was in custody and the scene was secure.

Ultimately, two people sustained minor, non-life-threatening injuries, according to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.

This included a 17-year-old male who suffered a head injury; both victims were hospitalized and are expected to recover.

While several other neighbors reported being shot at during the spree, no law enforcement officers were injured.

Detectives believe the shooting stemmed from a disturbance between neighbors, though the suspect’s identity and specific charges have not yet been released.

The public is asked to avoid the New Cane area as the investigation remains ongoing.
