Unique makeshift watch parties for Knicks unite NYC neighborhood: ‘This is New York, man’

Everyone wants a pizza the Knicks action.

Dozens of fans of New York’s hometown hoops heroes flocked to a unique makeshift watch party featuring a TV in the back of a Jeep outside a Brooklyn za’ joint Monday to see their team clinch a spot in the NBA finals.

And they’re ready to do it all over again for the first championship game June 3 — since the NYPD barred Madison Square Garden from holding its usual watch parties outside the famed arena because of safety concerns.

“This is New York, man,” said Arthur Montanti, an electrician, to The Post as he watched the Knicks score basket after basket at Monday’s excited gathering outside downtown’s Prince Street Pizza.

“I came for the moral support,” Montanti said while huddled along the rest of the crowd around a TV that eatery boss Dominic Morano stashed inside the trunk of his Jeep as part of a mission to bring the Carroll Gardens community together during the Knicks’ historic run.

We’re both rowdy, but we’re subtle. We’re classy Knicks fans. These are Knicks fans at their finest,’’ Montanti said.

The Smith Street party was the third that Morano hosted since opening the newest outpost of his family’s famous business three weeks ago.

Morano, 33, said he simply wanted to provide his new neighborhood with another space to celebrate the Knicks — but the parties became vital since MSG’s gatherings were cut off.

“Ninety-nine percent of New Yorkers are die-hard Knicks fans, and nothing brings out fans like the Knicks,’’ Morano told The Post.

“New York is better when the Knicks are winning. I love the old-school feeling you get walking down the street. I wanted to bring back old school vibes with the neighborhood all out watching together.”

The crowds have tripled in size after a picture of the set-up went viral last week, prompting Morano to rush to order a larger TV and use a generator to keep it alive throughout the games.

The pizza boss put out dozens of his own chairs behind the Jeep, and other neighbors brought their own from home.

Dozens of pedestrians and cyclists stopped in their tracks upon stumbling on the set-up, and drivers snuck peeks at the screen while waiting in traffic.

“This really brings the community together. It’s a beautiful thing to have the community outside like this,’’ said Ben L. 22, of Sunset Park.

“Everyone wants to see the sweep. Finding a spot like this is beautiful!”

Brett Glassman brought his two sons, Ryder, 8 and Sky, 6, to the party, which was much tamer than other bashes taking place at bars throughout the Big Apple.

“I couldn’t love this enough. This is great for New York. Anything that brings everyone all together!” Glassman said.

Ryder added, “This is cool!

“[Jalen] Brunson is the best player.’’

Watch-partygoer Preston, 32, called the event a “vibe.

“Sitting in the street enjoying some good New York sports with the neighbors — it can’t get better than this,” he said.
