A motorized scooter rider slammed head-on into a bicyclist on the Queensboro Bridge, leaving both dead during the Thursday morning rush, police said.
The 39-year-old man on the stand-up scooter was headed west in the bike lane around 8:20 a.m. when he hit the bicyclist, a 35-year-old man pedaling in the opposite direction, cops said.
Both riders were rushed to Weill Cornell Surgery at NewYork-Presbyterian Queens, where they were later pronounced dead, authorities said.
Their names had not been released by Thursday evening, pending family notification.
The non-profit organization Transportation Alternatives said it was “heartbroken” over the fatal crash and called on the City Council to pass Intro 244, known as the “Ride Safe, Ride Right” legislation.
The measure, sponsored by Council Member Crystal Hudson, would ban the sale of e-bikes that can travel faster than 20 miles per hour.
