Yankees utilityman Max Schuemann’s lessons in making the best of an awkward situation

WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Yankees got a taste of the Athletics’ life calling a Triple-A stadium home for a series last year, and will do so again this weekend.

Max Schuemann lived that life for an entire season.

The Yankees utilityman, who has fared well in limited playing time in the month he has been with the big league club, spent the past two years with the Athletics at an … interesting time. He called Oakland and the Coliseum home as a rookie in 2024 and Sacramento and Sutter Health Park home in 2025.

“I loved my time in Oakland,” Schuemann said this week. “It was always my goal, especially once they came out with the news that they were planning on moving away from Oakland, to debut as an Oakland A. And then to end up doing it, and also playing in the last game in the Coliseum, that was really cool. It’s an interesting transition, going from Oakland to Sacramento. I think Vegas will be really cool for those guys and whoever’s a part of it. It’s just an interesting little period over there, for sure.”
