The man accused of brutally beating the owner of the “Trump House” to death refused to take ownership of his alleged murder when ordered to stand in front of a San Diego judge Wednesday.
Thomas Caleb Butler was scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday morning and enter a plea for the alleged murder of Kerry Sheron. However, bailiffs informed the court the alleged murderer refused to exit his jail cell for the hearing.
The Judge, Richard Monroy, ordered an “extraction” for Butler, which is when jail officials physically remove a prisoner, for Friday June 5th
Sheron, 69, died from a traumatic head injury from a vicious assault allegedly committed by 32-year-old Navy veteran. Sheron’s widow, Maria, was outside the courthouse Wednesday in anticipation of Butler’s hearing — she was comforted by supporters.
The vicious assault, which police believed not to be politically motivated, happened on May 20 outside Sheron’s Trump and American-flag decorated home.
Prosecutors say Butler attacked Sheron in an unprovoked assault.
Butler, who The Post revealed is a Navy veteran, has pleaded not guilty to charges including attempted murder, elder abuse, criminal threats, and battery. His family said he’s suffered from “severe PTSD,” and they aren’t sure why he allegedly committed the attack.
Deputy District Attorney Ross Garcia previously told the court that Sheron suffered catastrophic injuries during the incident. “It was a single punch to the jaw,” Garcia said. “The victim then falls to the floor, and there are subsequent hits to the victim’s head area.”
In the days before Sheron’s death Maria gave an emotional update, telling reporters there was “no hope” for her husband as he remained hospitalized with devastating injuries.
Butler remains jailed without bail.
