Panthers rookie Nic Scourton will be sidelined after suffering a collapsed lung in practice earlier this week, Carolina head coach Dave Canales said Saturday.
Scourton, an edge rusher drafted in the second round out of Texas A&M, was injured during a joint practice Thursday with the Texans in Houston.
His symptoms initially presented as heat exhaustion until further tests were administered at a nearby hospital.

The 20-year-old Scourton was unable to fly and was driven back to Charlotte, accompanied by family members and team training staffers.
“It was a very physical play,” Canale said of the injury. “It was presenting like a heat exhaustion, because he was having trouble breathing.

“He was getting tired and all that, so we kind of cooled him down. We couldn’t get him to respond good enough to where we felt comfortable about putting him back into practice.”
According to Canales, Scourton is considered week-to-week.
