Here’s a look at potential coaching candidates for the Rangers after they fired Peter Laviolette:
1. Mike Sullivan
If Chris Drury has an opportunity to pry Sullivan away from the Penguins, the expectation is the Rangers president and general manager would do just that.
Sullivan told The Post before the start of last season that he was in Pittsburgh “for the long haul,” and on Friday told reporters his “intentions are to be the head coach moving forward,” but who knows what could happen amid the Penguins missing the playoffs for a third straight year.
2. Jay Leach
Behind the Bruins’ bench this season as an assistant, Leach would be a first-time NHL head coach if the Rangers hired him.
