Meet Andy Green, the ex-Met taking over as interim manager after Carlos Mendoza firing

Carlos Mendoza is out and Andy Green is in.

Green, a former Met, was named the interim manager for the rest of the season following the firing of Mendoza on Friday morning.

It won’t be the 48-year-old’s first managerial gig in the big leagues.

Green managed the Padres for four seasons from 2016 to 2019 — failing to reach the postseason in San Diego. He finished with an overall 274-366 record in San Diego to finish fourth twice and fifth (last) twice in the NL West.

Most recently, he was serving as the senior vice president, baseball development for the Mets in the minors.

Green was considered for the managerial job to replace Buck Showalter at the end of the 2023 season when David Stearns took over as president of baseball operations.

While the job went to Mendoza, Green was added as the Senior Vice President, Baseball Development and has held that role since.

Now, he will take on the tall task in Queens of trying to craft anything good and notable out of this dumpster-fire Mets season.

The reworked clubhouse came in with high expectations after chasing down big talent brought in to help the Mets get back to another NLCS after collapsing to miss the playoffs in 2025.

Everything and nearly everyone has only fallen short.

Green’s professional career as a utility infielder spanned four seasons in MLB, which included four games with the Mets in 2009.
