A teenage boy has been charged with murder after allegedly throwing a baby girl to the floor inside a Southern California home, leaving her with fatal injuries.

Law enforcement responded to a home on the 1400 block of Lynoak Drive in Claremont around 11:38 a.m. Monday.

‘Upon arrival, officers determined that an infant had been thrown to the floor by a juvenile at the residence. Personnel from the Los Angeles County Fire Department responded to the scene and transported the infant to Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center for emergency medical treatment,’ the Claremont Police Department said.

The juvenile suspect was taken into custody at the scene and booked into the Claremont Police Department jail, police said.

Due to the severity of her injuries, the baby was transferred to Children’s Hospital of Orange County, where she later died.

The teenage suspect was charged with murder and is currently being held at Los Padrinos Juvenile Hall.

He is set to be arraigned Thursday, July 2.

Claremont is a wealthy city in eastern Los Angeles County and home to the prestigious Claremont Colleges.

The consortium includes Harvey Mudd, Claremont McKenna, Pomona, and Scripps.

Claremont has a population of around 37,000 and boasts low crime rates, with the city recording just six homicides from 2013 to 2023.
