A California federal prosecutor has dramatically quit after raging against ICE when lefties claimed he was helping the agency.
Fresno City Council candidate Rob Fuentes, who recently stepped aside as an assistant US attorney, was attacked by fellow party members over claims he was assisting in deportation cases.
His response to the questions was to leave his job, before claiming he was “pushed out” by the Trump administration.
He said: “I was pushed out by the Trump administration for criticizing ICE publicly. I was placed on administrative leave literally one day after my criticisms of ICE were made public, with the expectation that I would be fired. I saved them the trouble and resigned.”
Just days earlier, he had refused to commit to leaving his office when asked by ABC 30.
“If you oppose [immigration enforcement] as a Fresno City Council candidate, why not leave office?” he was asked. He replied: “Yeah, and that’s it. And that’s a good question…”

The city council candidate said he believed he could still make a good impact, and said he would resign if he didn’t think so. But he refused to commit to resigning then.
Detractors point to a 2025 case where he defended the federal government against a Fresno father who has been detained since September 2025 after a traffic stop.
Fresno immigration attorney George Rios told ABC 30: “It seems and appears that he has now taken on a substantial caseload in which he has to defend the federal government’s actions…”
But he denied having involvement in the case.
“The fact of the matter is that case involving the father and the three US children, I have had nothing to do with that case,” Fuentes said.
City council opponent Naindeep Singh said he believed Fuentes argued on ICE’s behalf in “at least 124 immigration cases to separate families.”
“Fresno is one of the most diverse cities in America,” Singh said. “Our immigrant families are not a political talking point; they are Fresno.
“The farmworker who feeds his own children by feeding this Valley. The small-business owner who opened a shop on a borrowed dream.
“The neighbor who helped build the streets we walk on. When Trump moves to tear a parent from their children, Fresno should stand between them. We should not send our own lawyers to help.”
Singh and Fuentes are facing off in the city’s District 1, a section of the eastern part of the city. Councilmember Annalisa Perea currently holds the seat.
