Never-before-seen surveillance footage shows the clearest picture yet of what an investigator claims is Tyler Robinson just hours before he allegedly killed Charlie Kirk.
Videos played in court show Robinson, 23, at Utah Valley University campus on September 10, 2025, before leaving, returning, and finally climbing to a rooftop, former Utah state investigator David Hull testified Tuesday.
Hull claimed Robinson — who lived three hours away — roamed campus and even stopped for lunch at Chick-Fil-A before returning in different clothes and walking with a noticeable limp.
District Judge Tony Graf ruled against the defense’s objections that the videos be shown in court.
The videos and testimony came on the second day of the preliminary hearing to determine if Robinson will stand trial for the alleged assassination of the Turning Point USA founder.
Prosecutors are set to show scores of items of evidence against him, including a video interview of Robinson’s trans lover Lance Twiggs — to whom he allegedly confessed to the crime in text messages after the fact.
Robinson’s defense moved to keep videos of Kirk’s death and of their client’s movements from being shown, claiming that they could prejudice potential jurors and violate Kirk’s victim rights.
The defense has also pushed to keep media cameras out of the courtroom, but Judge Graf has so far sided with the state — choosing only to prevent media from broadcasting certain graphic images.
Kirk’s widow, Erika Kirk, attended the first day of proceedings on Monday, although she rushed out of the courtroom before videos of her husband’s death were shown.
Robinson, meanwhile, smiled at various times during the hearing while talking to one of his lawyers.
Monday was Erika’s first time coming face to face with the man accused of killing her conservative leading-light husband.
The Turning Point CEO, who took over leadership of Charlie’s grassroots organization, held hands with her mother-in-law Kathryn in the courtroom.
In addition to his widow and his parents, Charlie Kirk’s close pals Donald Trump Jr., with wife Bettina Anderson, and Jack Posobiec were in court.
In a statement ahead of the hearing, Charlie Kirk’s family and widow spoke out about “the darkest days of our lives.”
“We remain deeply grateful for the support, prayers, and kindness we have received. This outpouring has sustained us during the darkest days of our lives,” read part of a statement from Charlie Kirk’s parents, Robert and Kathryn, sister, Mary, and Erika.
“Out of respect for the judicial process, we will not be commenting further at this time. We ask for continued privacy as we navigate this process and immense grief,” the heartbroken family concluded.
Robinson occasionally took notes as his camp questioned witnesses during the proceeding, which is being held so prosecutors can try to prove to the judge they have enough evidence to put him on trial.
Robinson faces the death penalty if tried and convicted.
