New neighbors turn on California teen who sparked terror probe with suspicious chemistry set

An Orange County teenager whose home science experiments sparked a three-day FBI probe earlier this year has done it again –– at the family’s new home.

The Irvine Police, hazardous materials crews, bomb squad and FBI officials swarmed the home of 18-year-old Amalvin Fritz Tuesday after neighbors called 911, complaining of a strong chemical smell coming from barrels stored in the backyard of the family’s new home, reports CBS.

Fritz’s family lawyer Charles Young said the three barrels were released after being investigated by the FBI during the previous incident.

The Fritzes left their home temporarily while authorities conducted the investigation Tuesday.

“The family is beyond frustrated that this is happening again, and that people are scared of what they don’t understand,” their attorney claimed to NBCLA.

Raj Bhatia, a resident living in the area who sits on Irvine’s planning commission, is baffled to see history repeating itself.

“Now that this is pertaining to maybe a new site, a new location, what is the underlying reason for that and why isn’t it where he basically shouldn’t conduct any hazmat materials at his age? I don’t know how he gets the materials in the first place,” he told CBS.

After the first incident, Fritz, who was 17 years old at that time, had claimed he was just mixing chemicals commonly found in Epsom salts and nail polish remover with water and rubbing alcohol.
