Firefighters sprinted into a smoke-filled home as flames tore through the second floor and burst through the roof in dramatic video released by the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District, capturing the intense moments crews fought to save two homes from a fast-moving blaze.
The footage shows firefighters rushing hoses through blackened interiors coated in ash, climbing into the second story where fire had ripped through the structure and molten orange flames glowed through the roof.
Crews blasted water into the burning attic before forcing open a rear door with an axe to attack flames burning near a backyard barbecue area.
The fierce, coordinated effort ultimately kept the fire from spreading beyond the two damaged homes, preventing neighboring houses from being engulfed.
The dramatic rescue unfolded Monday afternoon after crews responded to the 4000 block of Tawny Meadow Way in Antelope, near Elverta Road and North Loop Boulevard, at approximately 2:30 p.m.
According to the fire district, the blaze started outside between the two homes before spreading into both structures.
By the time firefighters arrived, flames had already extended into the houses, prompting an immediate second alarm for additional resources.
Both homeowners safely evacuated before crews reached the scene, and no residents or firefighters were injured, officials said.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The Antelope blaze was one of three fires reported around the same time Monday afternoon.
The other two incidents occurred along Grand Avenue in Sacramento’s East Del Paso Heights neighborhood and at Oakborough Avenue and Foxhollow Way in Roseville.
The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District also urged residents to keep smoke alarms in working order.
“Smoke alarms save lives. Test your smoke alarms every month and replace batteries as recommended by the manufacturer. Having a working smoke alarm can provide the critical early warning needed to escape safely.”
