Mass shooting rocks Morgan Hill in California as 300 people flee in terror

One person was killed and seven were injured at a large party in Morgan Hill, according to the Santa Clara County Sherriff’s Office.

Deputies were first called to the party’s location at 10:15 p.m. at Hale and Miramonte avenues due to reports of there being intoxicated people and one person throwing a bottle at a vehicle.

But officers instead showed up to about 300 people leaving the area close to the shooting, said the sheriff’s office.

First responders who showed up found more than one person was shot and one person was found dead at the scene, according to the sheriff’s office. Others were taken to a hospital.

As of late, the sheriff’s office said there haven’t been any arrests made and an investigation is expected to be underway.

The only information investigators have disclosed is that a handgun was used and that the person or people responsible for the shooting are being tracked down. They also believe this to be an isolated incident.

“This tragic and senseless violence is entirely unacceptable,” Sheriff Robert Jonsen said. “Our hearts go out to the victim’s family, those recovering from their injuries and everyone in our community affected by this traumatic event.”

Those who responded to the shooting and helped with first aid, scene security and investigative work include the Morgan Hill Police Department, Gilroy Police Department, California Highway Patrol and San Jose Police Department.
