Tony Romo has avoided the sack from CBS.

The network does not plan on firing its top analyst following his OWI arrest in Wisconsin on Thursday, the Daily Mail reported.

However, Romo could take a “step back” from some public events as he deals with the fallout from the embarrassing situation.

“He might step back a little, short term, but he isn’t going anywhere long term. That wouldn’t make any sense for us at all,” a source told the website.

The former Cowboys quarterback was pulled over shortly after 6 p.m. on Interstate 43 on suspicion of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, according to the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office.

“Thankfully, Tony didn’t hurt himself or anyone else, and most importantly, no lives were lost.” an inside source told the Mail. “He knows he made a terrible decision and is well aware of it and he knows he disappointed not only himself, but those he works with and family.

“He contacted his bosses almost immediately to let them know what had happened because he understood the story would spread quickly once it became public. He’s already canceled his appearance at the golf tournament he was scheduled to attend and play in, and over the next few weeks he’s looking to keep a low profile while focusing on getting himself ready for the upcoming season.”

Romo had just finished a round at the Wisconsin Amateur Championship, where the avid golfer finished 35-over par after making the cut.

The California Post reported, per sheriff records, Romo refused to take a test for intoxication after being arrested.

Romo’s court date falls on Sep. 21, which is the Monday of Week 2 of the NFL season.

Romo is on a ten-year, $180 million contract extension with CBS, which expires in 2030. He will enter his tenth season as CBS’s lead NFL analyst alongside Jim Nantz, a role for which he has received criticism.

In the past, CBS has noted strong ratings as they backed Romo amidst fan complaints over his abilities in the booth, especially following his AFC Championship broadcast in January.

“I don’t want to act like it’s not a big deal, because it is. But it’s not going to get him fired,” a CBS exec told the Mail.
