A fierce three-alarm fire tore through a commercial building in Vernon on Thursday afternoon, sending towering flames and heavy smoke billowing into the air as firefighters rushed to contain the blaze.
The Los Angeles County Fire Department said the fire broke out just before 3:20 p.m. at a commercial property in the 4600 block of Hampton Street.
The incident is just a few miles south of Boyle Heights, where neighborhood residents are still grappling with the foul aftermath of rotting food from a recent cold storage fire.
Crews arriving at the scene encountered intense flames and dense smoke pouring from the structure, with dramatic plumes visible from several miles away.
The inferno quickly raced through the building, reducing the roof to ashes.
Firefighters remain on-scene actively battling the three-alarm blaze and protecting nearby structures, though no additional details have been released.
