Tony Romo will be replaced in the CBS Sports booth by an NFL legend for the time being.

After being arrested recently on suspicion of operating a vehicle while under the influence, CBS announced Friday that the former Cowboys great was being placed “until further notice.”

JJ Watt is being tapped to replace Romo in the CBS booth alongside Jim Nantz and Tracy Wolfson, the company announced.

Body cam footage revealed that Romo argued with a female police officer during a traffic stop in Wisconsin, citing that he wanted to call his lawyer rather than do any sobriety tests.

The responding officer told the CBS broadcaster that he had red, glassy eyes and the two struggled to communicate over the loud sounds of cars passing by.

Romo had been a lightning rod for attention before the news of his arrest dropped, with fans and pundits citing a rapidly deteriorating performance in the booth beside Nantz.

In his stead will be Watt, who retired from the NFL in 2022 after what will end up being a Hall of Fame career.

Watt played 12 dominant years in the NFL before becoming a broadcaster, and will now be part of CBS Sports’ top NFL broadcasting team.

He joined CBS in 2023 after he retired after a few years in Arizona.

Watt took over for Charles Davis alongside Ian Eagle as the second broadcast team for the network.

Though Romo’s transgressions out of the booth will see him jump to the main CBS broadcasting booth while Romo sits on the sidelines indefinitely.

CBS does not host the Super Bowl until 2028, while ESPN/ABC gets the nod in 2027.
