Starbucks horror as SoCal woman says boiling coffee spill led to surgery

A woman is suing a Starbucks in Riverside County after she says the coffee she ordered through a drive-thru spilled on her, causing second-degree burns.

Leota Walker told ABC7 the lid popped off her coffee after she grabbed it at the store in Wildomar last month, spilling boiling liquid across her stomach, inner thighs and private parts. 

“Starbucks has known for many, many years that they serve their beverages way too hot,” Daniel DeSantis, the victim’s lawyer, told the outlet.

“Incidents like these continue to happen over and over and over again and Starbucks refuses to change its safety policies and procedures.”

Since then, Walker told the station she has spent several weeks in the hospital undergoing and recovering from surgery. 

She is now suing the popular coffee chain for negligence. The lawsuit includes other incidents found online where customers have expressed concerns over the coffee company’s lids. 

The lawsuit demands Walker be compensated for her loss in wages and physical and emotional pain.

A man in Los Angeles County was awarded $50 million last year for a similar lawsuit against the company.

The California Post reached out to Starbucks for comment.
