One of the Chiefs’ early training camp standouts suffered an injury scare Saturday.

Kansas City rookie Cyrus Allen sustained a shin bruise during practice, according to ESPN, but avoided having anything torn or broken.

Allen was working as a gunner on a punt rep when he collided with Kaiir Elam while running downfield, per Taylor.

He stayed on the ground after the play with his helmet buried in the turf as trainers came over to check on him.

Allen, a fifth-round pick out of Cincinnati, eventually needed assistance getting back to his feet and walking off the field, and he later left the practice area sitting in the front of a cart, appearing to favor his left leg.

It’s potentially a setback for Allen, who was competing for a roster spot and had opened eyes during workouts, but Kansas City avoided the worst.

Allen caught five passes from Patrick Mahomes during 11-on-11 reps Friday, which earned him praise from Chiefs head coach Andy Reid after the practice.

“He’s done a nice job,” Reid said of Allen. “The quarterback trusts him.”

Allen’s teammates gushed about him as well.

“This isn’t even surprising [to me],” Chiefs receiver Xavier Worthy said. “He’s going to continue showing out in camp.”

Allen, 23, broke out as a senior at Cincinnati after stops at Louisiana Tech and Texas A&M, catching 51 passes for 674 yards and a school-record-tying 13 touchdowns.

Before going down with the injury, Allen said it was “surreal” working with Mahomes, who he was very familiar with thanks to Madden.

“It’s still a surreal moment for me because I used to play the game with Pat a lot,” Allen said. “On the game, that was my favorite team.”

Xavier Worthy, another Chiefs receiver, also exited practice Saturday with a shoulder injury, but ESPN and NFL Network reporter Ian Rapoport added that he’s expected to be fine.
